INFORMATION THAT MAY HELP YOU
Nothing wrong in using credit. In fact
it helps economic growth by more circulation of money.
You have a duty to pay what ever
the credit you may obtain. It is not your money but some one
else's, it helped you to obtain what you need without having to worry
about your cash position. Please respect that event.
Credit provider may offer you
interest free period and then a due date for payment. These
repayments may be on instalments. Some may charge interest
from day one. Read your agreement carefully and clarify any
points you are not sure of. You have the right to take legal
advice before entering to any contract. Some may have certain conditions
hidden, we do not know why such practices are allowed and
not debated under
customer protection. May be lobby groups could take such
issues and make it mandatory to disclose all conditions in
an appropriate manner.
As per agreement you need to repay
your loan. This include any utility bill for services such
as Gas Water Telephone etc,.
Service provider is suppose to take
all probable action to contact you and make a recovery. When
they approach, you
can request reasonable requests for which they may oblige.
If they do not oblige then you may
ask who is their OMBUDSMAN. You can make reasonable requests
within their Resolution Guidelines and that may help you
solve your
problem.
Thirdly you may use external Debt
Negotiator. Finally a more expensive Solicitor, if the
subject credit amount is large and the net benefit of taking
such action is positive (after paying fees).
Also if you have grounds to
declare voluntary bankruptcy, it is better to do so rather
than facing harassment. You should be aware that the lenders could
demand the debt and make you bankrupt any way if total
amount is over $10,000.
If they cannot reach you, they may
use the service of a collection agency to recover money. They will charge a fee. At this stage your
credit file will have a default entry. Then the collection
authorities will try to follow you with various means and
try to recover such money. Most people pay such amounts then
an there, if they have not received such
notifications before. Yet they will have this bad credit entry for
years in their credit file. Alternative that will help more
customers to retain better credit rating is to have this
entry after collection authority has made all efforts to
recover money. May be this will help reduce 50% entries as
bad credit. We do not
know why authorities have not looked in to such process
improvements. We believe they need to look after our genuine customers.
Impact of a small one off credit
default to a utility company may be ignored by some lenders.
Impact of a small default to a
credit provider could be more serious.
Larger the default it become more
serious.
Paid defaults are preferred to
unpaid. You
need to pay defaults to obtain further credit.
If default has been paid within a
short period once you were made aware of it, it may favour
you when you obtain credit next time.
If defaults were paid long before
you obtain your next credit, that may help you to obtain
lower interest rate than otherwise. Lenders need to see
repayment of defaults at least 12 months before new
applications are made and have no
further adverse records in your credit file.
There are loans for ex bankrupts
from day 1.
There are loans also against unlimited
credit defaults.
Unpaid default customers with no
issues during last 2 years too can seek further credit.
Home loans to 90% LVR and car loan
to 80% may be considered. Higher LVR will attract higher
interest than a lower LVR. Full doc customers are preferred,
we may consider low doc customers who could prove income in
an alternative way. |
